King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz Arabic Health Encyclopedia
The establishment of the King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Arabic Encyclopedia of Health Content was the result of a scientific study conducted by graduate students at the College of Public Health and Health Informatics, in cooperation with the Saudi Association for Health Informatics, the Global Health on the Net Foundation and the University of Geneva-Switzerland, to evaluate Arab health sites, where the results of the study were disclosed. The number of health websites in the Arabic language is very few compared to other languages, and that most of the Arabic websites lack international quality standards, as the percentage of Arabic websites that passed those criteria was only 4%. The study also showed that 80% of those surveyed were Arabic-speakers specialists and doctors and do not trust the health information available on the Internet.
Hence the idea of establishing the King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Arabic Health Encyclopedia, to be the first and most prominent site on the Internet to provide reliable health information, to address Arab readers, health care professionals, and students of health colleges, and enable health care providers to use the encyclopedia in their communication with patients to enhance Individual and community health.
The encyclopedia was officially launched on March 11, 2012, during the Fourth Saudi eHealth Conference in Riyadh, to be under the management of the Health Affairs Department of the Ministry of the Saudi National Guard.
